In the late 19th century, Island Bay was settled by Italian and Shetlander fishermen. Today there is still a strong tradition of fishing.
The bay is on the south coast of wellington, the capital of New-Zealand. It leads straight out to the roughest straight in the world... Cook straight ,, between the north island and the south island.
The water is cold and doesn`t really warm up till February but the boys didn`t mind.
