This is a handsome Spring Azure (Celastrina ladon) butterfly "puddling" on damp soil in the garden. It's a "Blue" butterfly, and the wings are quite blue on their upper surface. (San Marcos Pass, 1 November 2011
It odd because they usually appear after the rains. I have photo-records for every month from January to July, and one record from December last year. This is my first photo from November - and the first day of November at that. Well, we did get some good rain last month.
