look at THIS bullshit. the michigan GOP is using the Punjabi language to help it "satirize" the issue of outsourcing, since the democrats in that state have apparently flip-flopped on it. satire...i wish it were only something that harmless. i wish that my non-profit/activist spider sense wasn`t tingling.

i watched Michigan`s Governor Jennifer Granholm make a twat out of herself yesterday at the democratic convention, as she spoke ignorantly in an attempt to pander to the unwashed masses, yearning for an excuse for all of their problems (blame indians!), and i was beyond vexed. after the beauty of Obama and the fire of Sharpton...the podium deserved eloquence, passion and truth...three things Granholm lacks in spades.

perhaps my former party affiliation (disclosure: i was a republican) still has a hold on my heart; i am not happy that they are using the Punjabi language for pettiness, but i do note that they write:

"This webpage is not intended as an affront to any person or country, merely the variable nature of Michigan Democrats` position on outsourcing."

why that soothes me a bit, i don`t know. i wish i could read Punjabi, so that i could figure out what the page said...in any case, i wanted to make sure that you guys saw it too...

what do you think?

a press release further states that:

""This is not a slap at anyone or any country," said Greg McNeilly, executive director of the Michigan Republican Party. "This parody is dedicated solely for the benefit of Michigan voters who want to know the truth about Democrats outsourcing Michigan jobs to India. Until the Democrats come clean and start telling the truth, we`ll keep a spotlight on their actions - and reveal their hypocrisy."

acckkkk, i think if there wasn`t a giant Bush/Cheney logo on the page, i`d be able to consider this more rationally...

yeah .. because "we don`t mean to be offensive, but [do or say offensive thing here" is a perfectly valid excuse to be offensive and not have to take any consequences for it.They can say or do whatever they want, but they have to realize that they are alienating a lot of people with things like this.

i don`t know if our man Manish was "subsequent" (hard to believe...my position in the league doesn`t involve speed, unless i`m driving) but he definitely posted well and followed up via missive to the GOP. the system/league works. :)

Good post Anna. This was a clear victory for the League of Bloggers against the forces of ignorance. I think your efforts and Manish`s subsequent post may have helped raise awareness enough to cause at least some people to write in and have it removed. Score.

Man, politics is funny isn`t it? Free-market Republicans accusing union-backed, protectionist Democrats of supported "outsourcing" of jobs to India. Me no understand. Especially with an ad that is only bound to offend.Damn, I wish Brazil couldusurp some jobs. Unemployment level in Sao Paulo is 20%.

my friend Manish discusses this on his blog, and he finally awakened the part of my brain that immediately shut off upon seeing the Bush/Cheney logo; he`s right, if this were done in hebrew, it would be inappropriate. ah, that explains the aforementioned "tingling".more:http://www.vij.com/archive/damn_furriners.html

Of course, the GOP is pro-outsourcing, so that puts them on the exact side of the issue that`s so publicly unpopular. It`s a really weird choice of issues for them to make a fuss about.
