Disc Of The Day: Ryan Cabrera - You Stand Watching
Ryan's debut was a nice almost AOR-like diversion of teen pop. But never would I have ever thought he would throw down an album THIS good. Going a bit more mature than the debut, it sounds not unlike Evan & Jaron, The Calling or Hanson. A nice mix of mid-tempo fare and ballads that is paced evenly enough to hold your interest over the course of ten tunes. First single Shine On is an obvious highlight and tracks like From The Start and Our Story follows close behind. But, song of the album honors goes to Photo, a pop ditty so breezy that it sounds like the best of something from Paul Alan or Martin Stenmarck. The stark piano ballad It's You actually reminds me of the kind of thing Stryper did back in the day and is another highlight as well. Fans of the lighter side of old school AOR should dig this as well as you modern poppers out there.
