Father Demo Square is named for a priest who worked at Our Lady of Pompeii Church [http://www.fotolog.net/ronni/?pid=7726708 ] in the early years of the 20th century. To orient yourself, take a look at the map [ http://www.fotolog.net/ronni/?photo_id=7695350 ]. The square is really a triangle in the lower right corner at Sixth
Avenue and Bleecker, and this photo was taken from in front of the Avignone Pharmacy [ http://www.fotolog.net/ronni/?pid=7906564 ] across the street.
They tell me the Square is going to be renovated and redesigned and it surely does need it. I would like to see a great deal more bushes and flowers and winding walkways would be nice. To do that, it would probably need to be fenced at night, but weve become accustomed to that in New York. Its too bad, but its what is.
It will be nice if the renovation rumor is true. The city has done a good job on other parks they have redesigned in recent years. But dont hold your breath. It can take a decade even more - for the City to go from idea to realization.

Hi Ronni, no I am not planning a NY visit any time soon. Or rather, I might be planning, but my wallet doesn`t agree. :-)

So you left out the hoards of resident pigeons panhandling bread and pizza crust from the passerbys. Fair warning. . . . they will know. They receive the internet through their claws when they perch on the telephone wires.

That`s good news... but a decade? Wow, New Yorkers have to have a lot of patience! Fencing is really a necessary evil. Now I realize how lucky I am to be able to go to beautiful parks here without being "fenced in."

War is the plague that human beings bring upon themselves. It is also a plague we might be able to end. On any given day since you and I were born, some part of the world has been at warin 2003 the total number of open conflicts was thirty. In the twentieth century at least 108 million people died in wars. Of the 20 largest military budgets on earth, 14 belong to developing countries. The United States spends more on its military than the next 16 countries combined
