Last night was the winter solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere. We gathered together in the courtyard of St. Stevens Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to hold a vigil to remember the homeless who have no permanent shelter tonight, and those that have passed away homeless during the past year. For those who care and want to help, it is The Longest Night of the Year. Other vigils were held across the country to mark this night of remembrance. The man with his back to us in this photo is Bob (see previous picture) the homeless Iraqi war veteran. He is inside in temporary shelter, at least till the end of this month, and may be turned back out into the cold again. Yet he came out to remember the others in his situation. What about the rest of us? Maybe we should care a little because, they are we, and There for the grace of God go I.

The silence gets too hard to handle and the nights too long............
When I think about all the losses.....friends and family...
co-workers....situations that were hurtful.....I realize
that we all must strive to think of those happy moments
with those individuals...lighten your heart..find forgiveness.
This is very difficult to do.
This song for me best reflects these thoughts.....
I like the phrases... I try to keep those moments with me
during the day.

love your work, wishing you a very Happy New Year.... Keep up the good work of bringing homelessness to everyone's attention, I am sure it makes us all think a little bit more and hopefully makes us all a little more generous when we pass homeless people on th streets.

I relate to Fraser Kee Scott's writing because it reminds me of a time when I
assisted my friend, Beamer with a kiln firing.........He was trying to build my confidence....he leaned in very close and spoke softly in my ear..."You are what you think you are". I was surprised..because he usually was yelling loudly...anyway....at that one moment I needed those words.......
The people that Gary strives to help....need to have confidence.
Hopelessness...feeling desperate and 'bad' is such a dark place. I was there
many times.......but it begins with pushing those thoughts away each and every day....and working towards small goals. Those small goals build and then
it is somehow okay again........
Help Gary and spread the word about his website. Help others to believe
in their selfworth.
