Hola gente , seguimos con la busqueda de bajista. Lamentablemente los que estuvieron no llegaron a lograr los requisitos basicos que necesitamos , simplemente buscamos a alguien que concurra a todos los ensayos, se aprenda las canciones y afronte su parte de los gastos en la banda.

Hi Suz, sorry to take so long to get back to you.

I think you asked if there was any reason behind the bombings. Er . . . how long have you got?

ETA, our friendly neighbourhood terrorists, chose to take up arms against the Spanish government when General Franco was in power. Things were pretty bad then: children at school had to do Nazi-style salutes and the Basque language, one of Europe's oldest, was banned and you could be arrested for using it. ETA was formed and began a campaign of violence in favour of independence for the Basque region. When Franco died and Spain fairly quickly transformed itself into a democracy, the Basque Country was given a certain amount of freedom, its own parliament and police force. But ETA continued its campaign of bombs, kidnapping and intimidation, and the democratic government waged a 'dirty' war to eliminate ETA's leaders.

So now we have a stalemate: lots of Basques are still in prison for terrorist offences - often hundreds of miles away from their families - the police keep arresting and imprisoning the ringleaders, and the government refuses to allow a vote on independence. I should also mention that local politicians, whatever their party, can't go out without a bodyguard for fear of being attacked.

As foreigners we don't feel in any danger. But the hatred that ordinary people feel towards Madrid - the city, not just the government - is everywhere.
